The Health Promotors program was created by El Centro AMISTAD in 2016 to help address health disparities in the Latino immigrant community in Boulder County.
The Health Promotors are women who are part of the community, with the same culture and language as the people for whom they work.
They work in prevention of diabetes and other chronic diseases that affect the community. We do this by creating programs in health education and physical activities to promote and help people develop healthy habits and healthy lifestyles.
These programs include: Fiestas Refrescantes (Refreshing Fiestas), El Reto Saludable (The Healthy Challenge), Zumba classes, physical training, Bootcamp, and nutrition classes.

Are in-home presentations where we have a conversation with the hosts and their families about inequity in health care, and why the Health Promotors are doing this work, because it is important to live a healthier lifestyle.
We teach about the harm from sugary drinks, the diseases caused by excess sugar in our diets, and we teach people how to read nutritional labels.
We teach how to choose healthier options in their diet, and we give advice on how to make these changes little by little. We also take this opportunity to share resources with our community that could be useful for families.
The Challenge is an eight week program. The goal is to make healthy changes toward a better lifestyle.
Participants are given a guidebook in which each week, they write their own goals with objectives of reducing sugary drinks, drinking more water, doing exercise and improving their diet.
The participants also report their achievements and speak with their Promotor to receive the support and information needed to achieve their goals.
This is a program in Boulder that helps people and families in the City of Boulder who are not eligible for food assistance programs (WIC or SNAP).
Participants who receive these services receive a certain amount of money each month, according to the size of their household, in order to buy fresh fruits and vegetables in local Boulder stores.
To date, El Centro AMISTAD has been able to help over 230 families in Boulder County. This represents over 1,267 members in all.
During the pandemic, this program has helped many families whose victims were affected by COVID-19***

This is a program designed by El Centro AMISTAD directed towards elementary school students in Boulder County, offered as an after school, extracurricular activity consisting of 8 one-and-a-half hour sessions once a week.
The purpose of the program is to help students increase their knowledge of nutrition and healthier diet habits, and then to share what they have learned with their families.
We incorporate games, art activities, and food preparation, among other activities as an educational strategy, to increase interaction and entertainment while the students learn and improve their lifestyles.
